Constructing School Building and Establishing Garden in Landslide Affected Area

Background
Madulla school is the only school in the Madulla area which are 1289 students attend. 156 students in grade 9 (age 15) have been forced to conduct classes in the open area because of the lack of the class room facilities. Especially during the rainy season is making it difficult to continue teaching and it effect to the students education. The income background of most parents in this village is low and which forces them to give the priority to the economic issues than the education. Due to the economic poverty it has been reported malnourished children as well and it effects on learning activities.

Implementation
1. Constructing a school building in Madulla school.
For the construction works, encourage for school development committee throughout the project. It aims to foster ownership and also raise awareness about the importance of the education.

2. Implementing School Gardening.
Madulla School is having 0.5 hectares of space which can do gardening easily. Using this space, plant such as banana, Maize, Cassava and it take for the students’ usage. Land preparation, making compost, planting and maintenance will be doing by the students, parents and teachers. It can help to decrease the malnutrition level of children and build the habit for agriculture activities.

3. Empowering the parents and teachers for the education.
Motivating teachers and parents to enhance the ability to solve problems, improve the quality of education in the region by themselves as a group without waiting from government and non government support.
